Os Beatles estão apoiando a campanha de Music Matters para combater o download ilegal./The Beatles are supporting the Music Matters campaign to combat illegal downloading

The legendary pop group's estate has approved the use of the band's music in a special animated film which promotes downloading from legal sites.

The film, animated by Lee Gingold, follows a central character detailing how he grew up listening to the music of The Beatles - made up of Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, John Lennon and George Harrison - and how it has marked the various milestones in his life. Songs on the soundtrack include 'Hey Jude', 'Something' and 'Strawberry Fields Forever'.

The Music Matters campaign - started in 2010 - has also received support from artists such as Elbow, Bernard Butler, Paloma Faith and Kate Bush.

In an earlier video for the campaign, Florence and the Machine singer
Florence Welch explained how the music of Janis Joplin is important to her.

She said: "Her connection with the audience was really important. It seems to me the suffering and intensity of her performance go hand in hand.

"There was always a sense of longing, of searching for something. I think she really sums up the idea that soul is about putting your pain into something beautiful. And that's why she's so important to me."

Quando ser bom não é o suficiente/ When being good at your job isn't good enough

Remember Pete Best? Best was the Beatles drummer before Ringo Starr took the job and the group went on to become the Fab Four.

Best was invited by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison -- the original Beatles -- to join them in 1960 just as they went to Hamburg in northern Germany to play a series of club dates. According to Beatles lore, it was inHamburg, playing night after night in front of a live audience, that the group developed the seasoning and skills that would make them world-famous only a few years later.

Why didn't Best go on to fame and fortune with the others? He was considered good, but not good enough, and so he was dismissed after spending two years with the group.

In early 1962, the Beatles (with Best) auditioned for a recording contract with Decca Records and they were turned down. Months later, they auditioned for Parlophone. The producer there agreed to sign them but insisted on using an experienced session drummer instead of Best for the recordings (apparently, this was common practice at the time).

When Lennon, McCartney, and Harrison heard what the producer wanted, they decided to let Best go entirely and find someone else. They chose Ringo Starr and the rest is history. Apparently, they felt if Best wasn't good enough for the recording sessions, he wasn't good enough for what they aspired to become.

The music world may seem like a universe away from the daily concerns of most bosses, but almost every manager we've encountered has had a "Pete Best" problem -- someone on staff who was good, but not good enough.

How can someone be "good but not good enough"? It happens when you want your group to become better or somehow different. And when you and the group aspire to change and improve, you need to ask everyone involved (including yourself, by the way) if they are capable of helping the group attain and sustain that higher level of performance.

Unfortunately, the answer isn't always "yes." There's often someone who's perfectly capable in the current scenario -- like Pete Best as a club band drummer -- but isn't capable of doing his part to lift performance. What do you do with this person?

There's no formula for how to proceed, but we can offer some guidelines.

Start by being as clear as possible about where you and your group want to go. Make sure everyone is part of that decision and is committed to it. Otherwise, any actions you eventually take will appear arbitrary and even unfair.

Given the goals you've set, work with your team to identify their roles in making the change. Discuss with the group about how you may need to change as well. Make sure you're not the one who's good but not good enough.

Give everyone the opportunity to rise to the challenge. Give them the training, coaching, time, attention, and, most of all, the feedback they need to improve.

If and when you begin to sense that someone may not make it, keep working with that person, but it's also a good idea to start to talk to your company's HR department about the issue. There are policies and practices that you will likely need to follow.

Make sure the person in question knows where she stands by giving them regular feedback. She deserves to know not only where she stands but also what's at stake.

Once you decide someone won't make it, try to find another position that will work for that person, either in your group or elsewhere in the organization. Consider re-assigning roles and responsibilities to recognize her strengths, weaknesses, and potential. But don't compromise on what you need.

Above all: throughout this difficult process, it only pays to treat people with dignity and respect. It doesn't help matters if you try to make yourself feel better by demonizing someone -- that is, by finding fault with everything that person does to justify what you must do.

Be aware that, no matter what you do, your final decision -- to keep this person on or fire them -- will always be a judgment call to some degree. Could the Beatles have become stars with Pete Best instead of Ringo Starr? Who knows?

Many managers duck the whole difficult issue by making no decision at all or by putting it off forever. However, if you and your group aspire to be more than you currently are, it's a call you will have to make. It's one of the most difficult choices you will face, one that will keep you awake at night, but you cannot avoid it.

40° Aniversário do Concerto para Bangladesh & UNICEF Month of Giving/Concert for Bangladesh 40th Anniversary & UNICEF Month of Giving

Aonde os Cubanos podem finalmente encontrar os Beatles/ Where Cubans Can Meet the Beatles at Last

A Internet é executada no dial-up.

No entanto, é ainda bastante cubano.

Então, quando a banda iniciou novamente, cantando "How could I dance with another when I saw her standing there",  não foi nenhum pedido para que as pessoas saíssem de seus assentos.

The hair and accents were wrong, but the audience cared about just one thing: the house band was singing the Beatles, here, in a new bar called the Yellow Submarine, in Cuba, where such an act might have led to arrests in the mid-1960s. Better yet, perhaps because of that history, the band played like rebels. Fast and raw, they zipped up and down the bass lines of “Dear Prudence” as if the song were new. They raced through “Rocky Raccoon,” and when they reached the opening words of “Let It Be” — “When I find myself in times of trouble” — the entire crowd began singing along, swaying, staring at the band or belting out the chorus with their eyes closed in rapture.

“If there’s no Beatles, there’s no rock ’n’ roll,” said Guille Vilar, a co-creator of the bar. “This is music created with authenticity.”

Maybe so, but Cuba’s revolutionaries were not sure what to make of it when it first came out. Though today the bonds between counterculture rock and leftist politics are well established, back then, Cuban authorities — at least some of them — saw anything in English as American and practically treasonous. The Beatles, along with long hair, bell-bottom jeans and homosexuality, were all seen as
cause for alarm or arrest at a time when green fatigues were a statement of great importance.

Cuba in the ’60s and early ’70s, says Mr. Vilar, a trained musicologist, “was a very serious place.”

Indeed, many Cubans still recall having to sneak a listen to whatever Beatles album they could find in the wake of the Cuban missile crisis and the American trade embargo. Festivals like Woodstock and even smaller rock concerts hardly ever occurred — all of which helps explain the appeal of the Yellow Submarine.

Scarcity, as diamond dealers well know, is the genesis of value, and in Cuba, rock music is a rare cultural gem in its own right. But the Yellow Submarine, with its pealing guitars, porthole windows, blue and yellow interior, and Beatles’ lyrics on the walls? The full experience amounts to a short, direct road out of the norm.

Cuba, after all, is still a country of limited media. Just a few channels can be found on television. The Internet runs on dial-up. And while music is seemingly everywhere, including clubs and bars, most of it falls within a narrow spectrum between trova ballads and rump-shaking reggaetón.

“This place — it’s different,” said Alexander Peña, a student from outside Havana, sitting by the bar with three of his friends.

Nonetheless, it is still quite Cuban. The Culture Ministry owns and operates the club, which opened in March. That means a cheap cover charge ($2.50), Beatles imagery without official licensing and waiters in the usual black vests, with the usual requirement of at least three reminders before any drinks are actually delivered.

Mr. Vilar, who was an adviser on the project, said the government was trying to do the right thing — to reopen closed spaces and broaden Havana’s nightlife. The crowd seemed mostly pleased. And yet this was clearly no typical bunch of rum drinkers.

On a recent Saturday, the line of dozens snaking to the corner looked like it was heading to a college graduation. Only two groups seemed to be represented: baby boomers (wearing nice dresses and slacks) and twentysomething hipsters (in jeans and tight T-shirts). In a few cases, they had arrived together — mothers and daughters included — and each generation had its own reason for coming.

Older fans said the Yellow Submarine let them enjoy a moment that they should have experienced decades ago. “You don’t understand,” Marisa Valdes, 50, said as she danced with her husband, after taking pictures with wood cutouts of John, Paul, George and Ringo. “This music, it used to be banned!”

For the young, however, the Yellow Submarine offered the opposite — something new. For a few, the bar’s existence even suggested the island’s old government was learning some new tricks. “Maybe it shows that things in Cuba are changing,” Mr. Peña said.

But seriously, forget the seriousness for a moment. Inside, with the music playing loud, such thoughts were rare. Fun is one of the few luxuries that Cubans have held on to over the years, and whether it is salsa or rock, dancing is almost always included. So when the band kicked up again, belting out “How could I dance with another when I saw her standing there,” it took no urging to get people out of their seats.

Ms. Valdes in particular seemed pleased when a young couple jumped up and began to do the twist. He was tall, thin, with a beard and rubbery legs; she had tight, bouncy curls and a white dress that looked remarkably like the one worn by Ms. Valdes. The older woman just nodded as the young one shimmied. In music and style, in Havana now and of the past, the two were one.

Pierce Morgan e a história hackeada/ Pierce Morgan and the hacked story

In a well-managed, gentle appearance on the Conan show, Piers Morgan has surfaced to try to shut down speculation about his involvement in phone-hacking. But once again he has managed to get his story muddled just by opening his mouth:

“Paul McCartney is apparently now claiming someone hacked his phone, I suspect it was Heather Mills because in the divorce, if you study the divorce papers, Paul McCartney accused Heather then of hacking into his phones and passing information to the papers.”
Morgan has previously admitted having a tape of the couple’s voicemails and he used the content of it to spice up a piece that he wrote for the Daily Mail in 2006. Morgan has sworn blind to the public, and to his new employers at CNN, that he never knowingly published a story based on phone-hacking. So how did Morgan publish this story about Sir Paul McCartney, without knowing where the content had come from?

Ingressos para a premiére do ballet de Paul McCartney estão à venda/Tickets for Paul McCartney ballet premiere go on sale

"Ocean Kingdom" é primeiro balé do ex-Beatle.

Tickets for "Ocean’s Kingdom," the ballet Paul McCartney has co-written with Peter Martins of the New York City Ballet, went on advance sale Monday to exclusively to American Express card holders. The tickets are available at www.nycballet.com/AXPOK. General ticket sale will begin Aug. 15.

The new ballet's world premiere is Sept. 22 during the New York City Ballet's Fall Gala. "Ocean Kingdom" is the former Beatle's  first ballet.
“What was interesting was writing music that meant something expressively rather than just writing a song. Trying to write something that expressed an emotion, so you have fear, love, anger, sadness to play with and I found that exciting and challenging,” McCartney said about working on the ballet score.
Paul McCartney's daughter, Stella, designed costumes for the new work. The gala chairmen include actor Alec Baldwin, Lorne Michaels of "Saturday Night Live" and wife Alice, and John Eastman, brother of the late Linda McCartney, and his wife, Jodi.
The Fall Gala performance will also include George Balanchine’s "Union Jack."  Additional performances of the new ballet will be scheduled during the 201l/2012 season, though specific dates haven't yet been announced.

US$ 2,5000/ Famous Beatles ‘Butcher’ Album Cover Sells For $2500 On Ebay

10 Most Shocking Album Covers recently, it was an automatic that the infamous Beatles ‘Butcher’ cover would make the cut (oops, possible intended pun there). The memorable album cover is a prized collector piece that pops up from time to time and one of them just sold recently for $2500 on eBay.

Looking at the photo, which features the members of the Beatles posing with a whole bunch of meat and also, um, (fake) decapitated babies, it’s evident that shooting the pictures for the original cover for ‘Yesterday and Today’ was probably a really fun photo session.

There are a ton of stories, depending on who you ask, as to the reasoning behind the cover idea. Rumors at the time suggested that it was a poke at their U.S. label, Capitol Records, a visual commentary on the “butchering” of the U.S. versions of their albums, in which tracks were constantly being removed, with each album’s running order often altered as well.

John Lennon
said that the cover was inspired by “boredom and resentment at having to do another photo session and another Beatles thing. We were sick to death of it.” Photographer Robert Whitaker says the album cover was a satirical statement regarding the Beatles’ level of fame at the time.

Whatever the real story is, Capitol Records printed a ton of the album covers and then decided at the last moment to pull the cover and replace it with an amended, more sanitary cover, simply pasted over the original. Problem is, the move happened after a number of the aborted covers had already slipped out.

Hence, the value of the ones which survive today – supposedly, one sold for
$85,000, with $4000 to $15,000 being closer to the normal sale price, depending on condition.

The one that went for $2,500 was a stereo copy, rare in comparison to the more common mono version, and was listed as being in very good condition, with the seller labeling it “the rarest and most desirable record in existence.”

The ‘Butcher’ cover definitely has one of the better stories attached to any album cover that we’ve seen.
