Tickets for "Ocean’s Kingdom," the ballet Paul McCartney has co-written with Peter Martins of the New York City Ballet, went on advance sale Monday to exclusively to American Express card holders. The tickets are available at www.nycballet.com/AXPOK. General ticket sale will begin Aug. 15.
The new ballet's world premiere is Sept. 22 during the New York City Ballet's Fall Gala. "Ocean Kingdom" is the former Beatle's first ballet.
“What was interesting was writing music that meant something expressively rather than just writing a song. Trying to write something that expressed an emotion, so you have fear, love, anger, sadness to play with and I found that exciting and challenging,” McCartney said about working on the ballet score.
Paul McCartney's daughter, Stella, designed costumes for the new work. The gala chairmen include actor Alec Baldwin, Lorne Michaels of "Saturday Night Live" and wife Alice, and John Eastman, brother of the late Linda McCartney, and his wife, Jodi.
The Fall Gala performance will also include George Balanchine’s "Union Jack." Additional performances of the new ballet will be scheduled during the 201l/2012 season, though specific dates haven't yet been announced.
